Obituary

Agnes Joan Ballweg, 82, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on February 19, 2025, in Lodi, Wisconsin.  Agnes was born on February 28, 1942, in Plain, Wisconsin, to Walter and Agnes (Paar) Ruhland. She was united in marriage to Edwin Ballweg on February 15, 1969. She carried a deep connection to her roots throughout her life and dedicated herself to farming with her husband and raising her four sons.

Agnes had a deep love for the land and farmed on the homestead overlooking Crystal Lake with her family for many years. She found joy in needlework and word searches and was an avid gardener who took great pride in growing fresh produce. Her homemade canned pickles were cherished by those lucky enough to enjoy them. One of Agnes's greatest joys was spending time in the kitchen baking and cooking for her family—her meals were made with love and brought people together around the table.

Agnes had a love for card games, especially Sheepshead and Euchre, which she enjoyed playing with her family. She was also an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers, cheering them on through every season. In her quieter moments, she found joy in watching Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right, and classic episodes of The Andy Griffith Show.  Her warmth and love for simple pleasures brought happiness to those around her.

Faith played an important role in Agnes's life. She was an active member of her church community and valued the strength that faith provided throughout her journey.  Agnes will be remembered as a sweet and wonderful woman who was always smiling. Her strength and love for her family were evident in everything she did.

A devoted mother, Agnes took great pride in her family. She is survived by her sons; Neil (Jennifer) Ballweg, Larry Ballweg, Bruce Ballweg, and Scott (Becky) Ballweg. She also leaves behind her brother, Virgil (Jan) Ruhland and sister, Verda Rothwell; as well as two step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Ballweg; her parents, Walter and Agnes(Paar)Ruhland; her brothers, Harland Ruhland, Victor Ruhland, and Reggie Ruhland; and her sisters, Jeannette Masino, Delphina Reeve, Margaret Fargen, and Leona Reisinger.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 27, 2025, at 11:30 AM at St. Norbert's Catholic Church, 8944 Cty Hwy Y in Sauk City, Wisconsin. Prior to the service, visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:15 AM at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City. Following the service and burial, a Celebration of Life lunch will be held at the Dorf Haus in Roxbury, Wisconsin.

Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who helped care for Agnes and ensured her comfort in her final days. Special thanks go to Sauk Prairie Hospital for their compassionate care during her stay at the hospital, and to My Choice Wisconsin for providing the necessary resources that allowed her to remain at home.

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated caregivers from Right at Home in Waunakee, especially Teri, whose kindness extended beyond caregiving—offering support, home-cooked meals, and comforting words that guided the family through this difficult time. Deep appreciation also goes to Sharon, a long-term caregiver who not only provided excellent care for Agnes but also companionship for her and her sons.

The family is profoundly grateful to the incredible staff at St. Croix Hospice, whose presence in Agnes's final weeks brought comfort and guidance during this challenging time. Their dedication and compassion were truly invaluable.

Agnes's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. We will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace.
