Obituary

Agnes Gritzmacher dropped her last stitch on June 16, 2017. She left this world as suddenly as she came into it, leaving it a better place for all that knew her.

She was born Agnes Maria Huber in Herrngiersdorf, Germany, a small Bavarian farming community about 20 miles from Regensburg, on Jan. 11, 1935. She was the eldest of four sisters.
She relocated to Regensburg in 1949. In 1954, she came to "visit" relatives in Buffalo, N.Y., and San Diego, Calif. It was in San Diego that she met Lester Ryan Gritzmacher, a young Marine from Wisconsin. They were married in 1959 and had two sons, Gregory and Thomas.

From there they continued their world tour, living in Abilene, Texas, Cheyenne, Wyo., Great Falls and Lewistown, Mont., and Kimberly, Idaho, before settling in Johnson Creek, Wis., in 1969. Agnes and Les parted ways in 1978, and in 1986 she relocated to Elizabethtown, Ky., to be near her sister and extended family. Agnes was fortunate enough to make life-long friends at every stop along the way and stayed in contact with many throughout her life. She lived her last year in Arena, Wis., in the home of her eldest son.

Agnes loved to cook, bake, sew, knit and, most of all, sing. She was active in church choirs from childhood through her later years. Agnes also had a unique way of looking at the world around her and had a strong German work ethic. She valued her family, her heritage and her faith in Jesus Christ. She was loved by many. She will be missed. She will be remembered.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday July 8, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church, Elizabethtown Kentucky.
