Albert J. "Red" Gastrow, age 89, died on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born on March 13, 1926, the son of the late Albert and Clara (Stolberg) Gastrow. He attended school in Prairie du Sac, where he excelled in sports, especially football. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1944 until 1946 during WWII. Al was united in marriage to Betty Gasner on May 24, 1952. He was a member of Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694 and was able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2010, which was a major high point in his life. Al was a naturalist and had a great appreciation for the outdoors. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. " We love you dad/grandpa."
He is survived by his children, Krisa (Howard Henn) Johnson, Julie Cody, Scott (Shari) Gastrow and Becky (Rick) Sorensen; grandchildren, Erika (Marcel) Goldshen, Ryan Johnson, Matthew (Kendell Welsh) Cody, Andrew and Hailey (Travis) Gastrow, and Dane (Kira Bausch) and Brooke Sorensen; two great-grandchildren, Elise and Paizley Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and two sisters, Arlene Berg and Ruth Harris.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Sauk Prairie V.F.W. Clubhouse, 700 V.F.W. Drive, Prairie du Sac. Military services will be held at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694, 700 V.F.W. Drive, Prairie du Sac, WI 53578 or the Honor Flight program.
