Obituary

Alice Rose Kindschi, age 86, of Prairie du Sac, passed away peacefully at her home, from complications of diabetes and heart failure, on June 4th, surrounded by her loving family.

Alice was born on May 31, 1932, in Baraboo, to Paul and Martha Schroeder. She graduated from Baraboo High School in 1950 and attended Normal School in Reedsburg. She taught K-8 in a one-room schoolhouse for several years. She married Jerry Kindschi on August 20, 1955, and moved to the family farm outside of Prairie du Sac. She later worked at the Tripp Memorial Library in Prairie du Sac and also served as a substitute teacher.

Alice and Jerry had three children: Wayne Kindschi of Prairie du Sac, Steve (Holly) Kindschi of Prairie du Sac, and Kay (Matt) Nelson, of Kasson, MN. They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage.  Alice treasured her six grandchildren, Ashley, Jared, Nicole, Eric, Hayden, and Michael, and one great-grandchild, Alyce.

Alice enjoyed knitting, baking, solving word puzzles, reading, and traveling. For her grandchildren, she knitted baby sweaters, created afghans in their college colors, and made special birthday cakes. She was vitally interested in her grandkids' activities and attended as many of their events as she could. She and Jerry traveled the world and took each grandchild on a special trip to a destination of their choice.

Alice was active in her community, including many United Methodist church groups, Order of the Eastern Star, 4-H Club leader, bowling leagues, and the Prairie du Sac Library Building Committee. Her warm smile and generosity of heart were a gift to many that knew her, and she will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, her sister Ruth Falk of Baraboo, and her little dog, Dixie. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, and her brother Donald Schroeder.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8 th , at 11 am, at the Concordia United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be served afterward, with a graveside burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Concordia United Methodist Church or the Ruth Culver Community Library.

The family thanks the staff of St. Mary's Hospital and staff of Agrace Hospice for their attentive care over the past eight months.
