Alvin August Prochnow, 102, of Prairie du Sac was called to heaven on Thursday, April 19th, 2018. He was born January 24th, 1916 in Montello, WI.  He met and married the love of his life, Sylvia Steffenhagen, spending a full, happy, active life together for 72 years.  Sylvia has been waiting for him in heaven since March 26th, 2009.

His legacy includes instilling many values into his daughters and their families. In his long, amazing life he always lent a hand to those in need, and as a self-made man, shared his many talents.  His loves included travel, nature, gardening, music, cards and games, hunting and fishing; all the simple joys in life.  He was a gentleman of the "greatest generation" and maintained his sense of humor and appreciation to the very end.  His family will especially remember his laughter, which often resulted in tears of joy.

Al is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn & Lynn VandeBerg, and a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth & Herb McWhorter. Remembering him fondly will be his three grandchildren, Trina VandeBerg and her children, Finn & Seneca, Marie VandeBerg & her wife Stacey Miller, Kasey VandeBerg and his wife Brooke, and their children, Thomas, Harper, and William.

Assisted Living for their excellent, loving care where he happily lived for the last 4 years. The family also greatly appreciated the comfort and care provided by Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care for the additional support and care received in his final days.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, April 23rd at First Presbyterian Church, 425 5th Street, Prairie du Sac, WI. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m.  prior to a celebration of life at 11:00.
