Obituary

Andrew George Ballweg left this world as he had lived in it, quietly and without fanfare, leaving a huge hole in the hearts of those who loved him so dearly.  Our Dad left us on August 3, 2021, joining his beloved wife Gerry, who passed away in October 2017.

He leaves behind his 3 children, son Steve (Bev) and daughters, Deb (Jim) Cramer and Cindy (Steve) Mack; 8 grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff) Sudmeier, Courtney (Jared) Maier, Bethany (Christ) Christon, Lindsey (Colin) Kepler, Zachary (Emily Boutcher) Ballweg, Tyler (Jenna) Cramer, Hayley (Blake) Lindsey, and Shelby (Dustin Bolt) Cramer.  His legacy also includes his great grandchildren, Addie and Max Sudmeier, Lawson and Brock Maier, George and Zander Christon, Kacee and Karly Kepler, Vincent Cramer and Elsie Lindsey.  Also surviving are his sisters in law, Della Mae (Bill) Dohmeyer and Joanne Paar; brothers in law Ron (Barb) Paar, Tony Wankerl, Richard Naughton and Earl Orscholski and many nieces and nephews.

Dad was the last surviving member of his family, being preceded in death by his parents, John and Lenora Ballweg; siblings and spouses Herman, John , Hank, Tony (Marie), Josephine (Frank), Marie, Lenora (Edward), Darlene, and 2 infant sisters.  Also preceding him were Gerry's parents, Lawrence and Rose Paar, her sisters Lorraine Wankerl, Marlene (Harry) Endres, and her brother, Virgil Paar.  He and Mom lost an infant daughter Michelle, in 1961 and a great grandson, Aiden Sudmeier in 2008.

Andy was born on November 21, 1926 in the town of Roxbury. His working life started at age 13 and continued until he joined the Army in 1950.  He was stationed at Fort Warden in the state of Washington; on leave in September 1951, he married Geraldine Paar in Martinsville, and after being honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, they moved to the Sauk City area, building their home and raising their family.  Andy worked for the Tri County Co-op in Sauk City for 50+ years, retiring in 1998.  Dad loved working in his flower and vegetable gardens, supplying his family with lots and lots of fresh produce.  Pops loved cutting wood, working puzzles and reading Louis La'mour western novels and WWII history books, and of course his daily paper.  Dad also enjoyed collecting coins and attending auctions, (coming home with some wonderful finds, much to Mom's chagrin) and loved watching westerns on TV, especially Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies.  "Discussing" politics and an occasional cold beer were a few of his other pleasures!  His son, Steve accompanied him on his Honor Flight in September of 2016. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling, mostly with the whole family when the grandkids were younger, taking several trips out West.  His formal education ended with 8th grade, but he never stopped learning, and was always willing to take on the many projects Mom and his kids and grandkids presented to him.  He was truly a member of the "Greatest Generation", quiet, unassuming with a heart of gold, always putting others first.  We will all miss his quiet humor and sage advice, and his always comforting presence.  Rest well Poppa, miss you forever, best Daddy ever.

We would like to thank the staff of the Pines Assisted Living for their kind and compassionate care of Dad, and the Agrace Hospice team, led by nurse Kevin.  There are "angels among us" and they work at Agrace.

Dad was a lifelong member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church, Roxbury, where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Graveside services with Military Honors accorded by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694 will be held immediately after the Church services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Agrace Hospice.
