Obituary

Arlene M. Wegner, age 93, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024.  She was born at home in rural Prairie du Sac on Apr. 15, 1931 to the late Herman and Erna (Slotty) Shimniok.  She graduated from the Madison St., Sauk City High School; class of 1949.  Arlene was united in marriage to Glen Wegner on June 4, 1954; he preceded her in death on March 3, 2006.  Arlene worked for a short time at Mendota Health in Madison, and Badger Ordinance during the Korean War Era.  She later started working at the Witwen Drug Store in downtown Sauk City and stayed when it moved locations and became the Sauk City Pharmacy until she retired.

Arlene enjoyed her flowers and gardening, sewing, baking and was known for her chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and ginger snap cookies.  For years, she enjoyed bowling many leagues and she and Glen bowled together in a couple's league.  In her later years she was fortunate to remain at her home that she and her husband built shortly after they married thanks to the care from her son Rustin.

She is survived by her son's, Richard Wegner; Robert (Tammy Thompson-Wegner), Ross (Kim Wright), Rustin Wegner; her sister Lois Price; and a special relative, Tom (Jean) Grove of Fort Collins, CO.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband Glen; she was preceded in death by siblings, Elsie (Clayton) Eberhart, Harry (Eileen) Shimniok, Carl (Carol) Shimniok, Donna (Andrew Bruflat) Shimniok and brother in-law, Jim Price.

Arlene's family would like to thank the Sauk Prairie Ambulance and First Responders, Sauk Prairie Hospital, and St. Mary's Hospital for their care of Arlene.

As per Arlene's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at the Prairie du Sac Cemetery and a Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
