Benjamin K Ward, age 78, of Prairie du Sac passed away February 8th, 2026, at Maplewood Long Term Care after a brave battle with Alzheimer's. Ben was born June 22nd, 1947, son of the late Dorothy (Miller) Ward and Keith Ward.  Ben grew up on a small farm in Marietta Township in Crawford County.  He enjoyed the camaraderie (and some teasing) growing up with his sister Mary.

Ben was united in marriage to Linda (Haidinger) Ward on March 8, 1969. They were blessed with two sons and two grandchildren.
He was always so proud of his family and beamed with pride and joy when speaking about them.  He very much liked being called "Papa Ben."

He was employed by Madison Gas and Electric after high school as a Utility Lineman.  He then moved his family to Prairie du Sac and was employed as the Superintendent of Public Works for the village. After learning a lot at that career, he found a new career in Municipal Utility Sales working for multiple companies.  He enjoyed calling on his Utility customers.  He had the gift to gab and loved his job.

Ben served in the United States Army Reserve for 26 years, retiring as a Sargeant First Class E7.

Ben enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling and spending time with his family.  Ben and Linda looked forward to their yearly trips to Door County.  He was proud to be on a Madison Slow Pitch team that won a city championship in 1974. He loved all sports and loved watching his kids and grandkids play.

Ben is survived by his wife of almost 57 years.  He is also survived by his sons Terry Ward of Cottage Grove and Tom (Christy) Ward of Madison. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Parker and Ellie Ward.

Ben also has many nieces and nephews as well as brother and sister in laws who always had such a good time when they got together.  He loved them all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ritchie, a brother Kerry Ward, and a sister Janet Ward, brother in laws, Robert Taitt and Lavon Ritchie.

Special thanks to the staff at Maplewood who always treated Ben with dignity and compassion along with Agrace Hospice. (Especially Nurse Megan) You are all angels on earth.

Heaven is lucky to have you husband and so was I.

A funeral service will be held for Ben on Saturday, February 21 at 11:00am at Concordia United Methodist Church, 585 5th St., Prairie du Sac.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church. Luncheon at church to follow service.
