Bernard H. "Ben" Maier, age 84, died on Monday, September 22, 2008 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. He was born in Springfield Township on July 31, 1924, the son of the late Wolfgang and Margaret (Wipperfurth) Maier. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Koellen on November 15, 1952 at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison. Ben was a lifelong farmer in the Roxbury/Dane area. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, card-playing, farming, Hershey Kisses and Oreo Cookies. He was a long-time member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Roxbury. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two children, Terry (Rich) Haag and Tim Maier; six grandchildren, Kris (Jamie) Maier, Christine (Josh) King, Tonya Maier, Rachel Haag, Zach Maier and Jacob Haag; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Aidan Maier; five siblings, Bertha Spahn, Francis Dyer, Joe (Ruth) Maier, Mary Barman and Sister Lenora Maier; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Schrenk and two brothers, Herman and Aloysius Maier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. NORBERT'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Roxbury, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2008. Burial will be in St. Norbert's Cemetery. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. "We love you and will miss you, Husband, Dad, Grandpa and friend."
