Obituary

Bernice King (née Campbell), aged 94, passed away peacefully October 15, 2024, in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. Born on November 1, 1929, in Waukegan, Illinois, Bernice was known for her contagious smile, generous spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. She was an avid reader and remained active throughout her life, embodying the virtues of a devoted wife and mother.

Bernice worked alongside her husband, Orville L. King, for 35 years and continued working at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie until she was 82. Her commitment to her work was paralleled by her dedication to her family and friends.

A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bernice also found joy in her hobbies, which included playing cards with friends, Sunday afternoon games of backgammon and cribbage with her daughter, reading extensively, and solving crossword puzzles. These activities were a testament to her lively and engaging nature.

Bernice is survived by her daughters, Linda and husband Roger Barnhill, and Pamela and husband Chris Harden, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville L. King, her parents, Elizabeth Hilda and Ernest Campbell, her brother, Edward Campbell, and her sisters, Lily Crary and Betty Paul.

A Celebration of Life for Bernice will be held at a date to be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Heart Association in her memory.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at The Pines Assisted Living, Kevin, Mary, and the wonderful staff of Agrace Hospice Care. Bernice's legacy of warmth, laughter, and kindness will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
