Bernice Louise Murray, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2013 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, following a sudden stroke. She was born in Sterling, ND on January 1, 1920, the daughter of Louise and William Kusch. She married Charles L. Murray in 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1983. Together they raised five children. Bernice was a loving mother and wife. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Merrimac where she lived for 49 years. She loved flowers, crocheting, needlework, being active, and walking in the outdoors. Bernice volunteered at her church and Durward's Glen as well as visiting the sick and elderly.


She is survived by her dear friend, Darwin Nelson; three sons, Charles Murray of Madison, Dennis (Darlene) Murray of Denver, CO and Allan Murray of Baraboo; two daughters, Susan (Ken) Laufenberg of Charlotte, NC and Margaret (Jon) Fordyce of Green Bay; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Johnson and Betty (Wayne) Howell and two brothers, Harry (Connie) Kusch and Raymond (Elaine) Kusch. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Hattie Hindt and Viola Oestrich; and brothers, Donald, Lloyd, and Clarence Kusch.


A Celebratory Christian Mass will be held at ST. MARY'S PARISH in Merrimac at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013, followed by a celebration of her life at her home in Merrimac. Friends and family are welcome.
