IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jane
Fisher
April 11, 1950 – November 27, 2024
Betty Jane Fisher, age 74, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at Sauk Prairie Hospital surrounded by her family. Betty was born on April 11, 1950, in Sauk Prairie to Robert and Loretta (Loerzel) Blum. She attended Sauk Prairie schools and was in the first graduating class that attended all four years at the new combined high school.
Betty met the love of her life, Dennis Fisher, after picking him up as a hitchhiker on June 6, 1968, on their way to Devil's Lake. Together they went on to study nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. They were then united in marriage on February 14, 1970, before Dennis set off for Army Flight School, taking them to Texas. Betty showed unwavering support to Dennis as he completed flight school, deployment to Vietnam, and his early return home where she stood by his side through his years of recovery. They later owned and operated Black Earth Manor Nursing Home from 1975 - 1982. Upon selling and after the birth of their three children, they spent their days traveling the states in a motorhome, settling in Oklahoma for a short time before returning to Sauk Prairie. Here, Betty spent her days working as a nurse with Home Health United until she retired in 2003.
Betty was full of love and spread that love and kindness through her hobbies. Baking and cooking being the top of her talents! She was famous for her 'Ama' cookies and banana bread which she shared with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. It was highly impressive what she could create out of the tiniest kitchen. From Christmas Eve seafood dinner to a thanksgiving spread with the best homemade dressing in history, she created the space for countless gatherings.
She also worked alongside the Quilting Club at St John's to make quilts to send to those in need. Quilting became a passion for Betty, and she quickly started creating numerous quilts for those she loved. She continued to quilt alongside her best friend Carol Mallon, where they worked diligently together to provide baby quilts for baptisms at St John's Lutheran Church.
And much like her mother Gabby, Betty loved to socialize and enjoyed her time eating out with the 68-ers, playing a game of Eukure with her card club and sharing her faith with her Circle Group from Church.
Betty loved to travel with family and friends. The 174th reunion that met up twice a year to honor Dennis' army company, was her favorite. It was there where friends became family, and Betty was loved by all and known for being an advisor, and listener to everyone.
Above all, Betty loved to spend time with her family and pets. She attended many events and gave support to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The last being a winter dance recital the Friday before passing.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Loretta "Gabby" (Loerzel) Blum, her sister Bonnie, her second mother Aunt Helen, and many pups that she loved over the years.
She is survived by her husband (and love of her life) Dennis Fisher, children Tracy Hehenberger, Jay (Nicole) Fisher, and Dana (Nic) Mueller, grandchildren Kayla Renz (Michael Clapper), Hailee Radel, Gracyn Hehenberger, Noelle and Emmett Mueller, and Dylann and Marli Fisher, and her great-grandchildren Vivian Coy and Oliver, Benson, and Curtis Clapper. She is also survived by her brother Jerry Blum and sisters Nancy Bogges and Linda Meyer and many other extended family and friends. And of course, Chip, the newest rescued puppy.
Betty's family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, and all of the staff that provided care for her at Sauk Prairie Hospital, Maplewood and Prairie Clinic. Many of you became like family and she was so lucky to have you.
