Obituary

Betty Ann {Jay} Granger, 76, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 2nd, 2022. Betty was born to Vivah and John Jay in Mauston, WI on June 3rd, 1946. She was the 2nd to last child in a big family of 10 siblings. A family built on the legacy of love and acceptance. As a young child she lived on a farm in LaValle until it burnt down when they were all at an outdoor movie together; they came home to next to nothing but were resilient. From there, John Jay rented a house on a farm near Baraboo, known as the Potter farm. Shortly after he passed, Vivah took the family and moved into the town of Mauston where Betty grew up and went to the Mauston school system. After graduation in 1964, she started working for the phone company in Mauston, then she moved in with her brother and worked on the square in Madison. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Robert (Granger). They moved together to the town of Windsor, Wi where they rented an apartment. Soon after that they found a house in Oregon and it was there that they had their first born child, Jennifer, and their love grew.

Betty was blessed with being able to stay home to raise their daughter while Bob worked in Madison. In 1976 Bob landed a job at the new Ford garage in Sauk City and there they purchased their family home in Prairie du Sac. It was here that Betty began her career as a daycare provider. It wasn't just a daycare for those kids though, she was a second mom to them as well as the crew of kids in the neighborhood. She shared so much of her love through the years with those kids, and when Jennifer was 8 her and Bob welcomed their 2nd child, Jason. Their love grew again and their family was complete. Betty continued to stay home and raise her children until about 1990 when she decided to work outside the home again and took a job at the new Hardees in town. She made new friends instantly because she was so easy to love. In about 1995 she left Hardees and joined her daughter and son-in-law to work at the new Fiskars in Sauk City. There she met a whole new bunch of people that quickly became friends. In spring of 1999 she had a triple bypass heart surgery which gave her more life and love to share. In 2010 is when Fiskars closed down and Betty retired. She continued to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren and family. Betty didn't like to be idle for long, and was always on the go. She traveled with Bob, friends and family all over the US. Something she always wanted to do. In July of 2012 her and Bob bought their summer place out at Crystal Lake in Lodi, WI. "Grangers Getaway" was their summer home away from home. This was a place for family and friends to gather. Bob and Betty were fun loving and quickly made a whole new batch of friends at the lake. They enjoyed 4 years of the blissful lake life with many visits from family and friends. Lots of memories were made until Bob passed from cancer in October of 2016. Betty continued to love life, travel and spend time with her family.

In spring of 2018 she sold the house and started apartment life. She made lots of good memories hosting game weekends with cards and fun with her dear lifelong friends, shopping and movies or just cruising the countryside. In January of 2021 she had the unique opportunity to live next door to her daughter and son-in-law. It was a great year with lots of fun memories made. In March of 2022 she moved back to town and lived there until she passed.

Betty was the ear that would always listen. The one you could count on to make you feel better. She always found the time, money or way to help or support anyone in need. Even though she knew life could be unforgiving, she always forgave. Betty's legacy was real, unconditional love. She prided herself on honesty, kindness, forgiveness and above all LOVE. She never spoke an ill word about anyone and could easily make a friend anywhere she went. She struck up a conversation with a stranger and pulled a smile out of everyone she met because hers was so contagious. She willingly gave so much of her heart away to so many people, we were all lucky to have a piece of it. If you knew her, you knew she loved you. Keep on spreading that love and light for her because that is what she would have wanted. She was taught to live by the golden rule: treat others as you would like to be treated and she did just that on a daily basis.

Her gentle, spirit filled soul was preceded in death by her husband Robert Granger, her parents John and Vivah, siblings; Wally, Kenny, John "Bud", Veronica, Doris, Florence and Vivian along with many other loved ones. She is survived by her son, Jason (Sindee) Granger and daughter Jennifer (David) Martin both of Prairie du Sac. Her beloved grandchildren; Kloee and Natilee Granger, Marshall, Garrison and JoElla (Alesha & Tyler) Martin. Her sister Linda of Lyndon Station, brother Harland of Jefferson and best friend of 66 years Lela Luke of Mauston, along with many other friends and family who will deeply miss her loving ways and kind, gentle spirit.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 9th at the Concordia United Methodist church in Prairie du Sac, WI. Time for visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday November 8th at the church and also on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
