Obituary

Beverly E. Westphal, age 86, passed away peacefully, with family by her side on December 17, 2017 at the Meadows in Spring Green. She was born on March 24, 1931, the daughter of the late Albert and Marie (Punswick) Barsness. As a young girl, she loved music and enjoyed singing duets with her sister Marilyn. Beverly graduated from Black Earth High School in 1949 and started working as a nanny for the Reimer family.

She married Thomas Westphal on October 7, 1950 and raised 3 children on the family farm in Cross Plains. Beverly then went to work as a household assistant for the Kuypers family in Madison. She was also a skilled seamstress and altered many a wedding dress at Cupid's Corner Bridal. She was an excellent cook and proud of her heritage, often making tasty Norwegian dishes. She enjoyed frequent fishing trips up North with her friends and family. Beverly was a lifelong member of Vermont Lutheran Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years. She loved her family with all her heart.

Beverly is survived by her son, Norman (Deanna Penland) Westphal of Poynette; daughters, Kristine (Kim) Fitzgerald of Cross Plains and Lauri (Dave) Liegel of Spring Green; grandchildren, Jaime Woyak, Mark (Anna Howick), Alex and Eric Fitzgerald, Danielle (Mike Fleischmann) Liegel, Haylie (Ben) Sprecher, Anna (Deryk Clary) Liegel, and Sheena (John) Williams; great-grandchildren James Woyak and Jaxon Williams; and brothers Rick (Sue) Barsness and Jim Barsness. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Westphal; sister, Marilyn Ward; brother Lyle Barsness; and brother-in-law Wayne Ward.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Meadows Assisted Living facility, Agrace Hospice Care and to Dr. Furukawa for their compassionate care and kindness.

A family memorial service celebrating Beverly's life will be held.
