Boyd E. Spurley

Boyd E. Spurley, age 72, of Arena passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 24, 2026. He was born Mar. 25, 1954 to Eldon and Arlene (Olson) Spurley. Boyd attended and graduated from River Valley High School; class of 1972. Following high school he enlisted in the US Army in Ft. Campbell; he later served in Panama and Germany until he was honorably discharged after 12 years of service and continued to serve in the Army Reserve. Upon his discharge from the service, he earned a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Business while attended UW Platteville. Boyd sold seed for a few years, but eventually went to work for Kramer Bros. Construction in Plain. He soon after started his own construction company, Spurley Construction. For over 25 years he built new homes, remodeled and did concrete construction.

Boyd enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting and turkey hunting and looking for the elusive morel patch and could often be found at home with a cat on his lap. In his younger years he served as a Boy Scout leader for local youths and his nephews; loved to play softball and even had the bragging rights as the home run champ. Boyd was a member of the Arena VFW Post.

He is survived by his siblings; Sherry Sheel, Gail (David) Forseth, Guy (Lydia) Spurley, Lenny Spurley, Wade (Angie) Spurley; several nieces, nephews other relatives and a special friend, Rose Anderson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Michelle.

A funeral service for Boyd will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at Hooverson Funeral Home, 702 Emily Rd., Mazomanie. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors accorded by the Arena VFW Post will be held in the Arena Cemetery.
