Bruce Douglas Ohlsen

Bruce Douglas Ohlsen, age 76, passed away at Agrace Hospice in Madison on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026 after succumbing to complications from Dementia. He was born in Lynd, MN. on Feb. 27, 1950 to the late Roger and Carol (Nicholson) Ohlsen and graduated from the Luverne High School. Bruce went on to Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN earning his bachelor’s degree in 1973 in Sociology with a minor in Political Science. Bruce went on to work at Cardinal Glass in Spring Green then worked for Unity HMO Insurance Company settling in Sauk Prairie where he raised his family. His 21 years at HMO/Unity were his favorite years as a professional and he spoke fondly of his time there. He loved the outdoors and outdoor sports-playing softball, racquetball, swimming and looking forward to family weekends camping at Devils Lake, Governor Dodge, and anywhere he could set up a tent or park a pop-up trailer. He also enjoyed being involved in his children’s activities; he coached baseball, served as Cubmaster for Boy Scouts, taught bible school studies at Concordia United Methodist Church, and was a former active member of the Jaycees. Bruce also enjoyed long distance running-even competing in a marathon and other races. He enjoyed traveling, highlights were trips to Hawaii, NAPA Valley, Sedona and his trip with Bryan and Aaron to Mt Baker, Washington.

Bruce is survived by his three children, Amberlee (Eric Sherven) Ohlsen and their children Burke and Freya; Bryan Ohlsen and his daughter Esmee Llorca-Ohlsen; and Aaron Ohlsen and his son Dalton. He is further survived by his sister, Gretchen Becker; niece Kim Becker, nephews Todd Becker and Jerod Ohlsen, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Ohlsen and nephew, Brice Ohlsen.

Bruce’s family will privately celebrate his life.
