Obituary

Carl Oscar Jones, age 91, died on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at his home in Mazomanie. He was born in Groton, SD on June 13, 1917, the son of the late Ralph C. and Wilhelmina (Riecke) Jones. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Carl was united in marriage to Marguerite M. Reindl on May 5, 1942 at St. James Catholic Church in Madison. He was employed at the Veterans Hospital in Madison for thirty years. After retirement he held various jobs in the Mazomanie area. Carl was a devoted family man and foster parent who enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and gardening, and was a very proud cancer survivor of thirty years. He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church for more than fifty years where he taught Religious Education for over ten years. He was a charter member of St. Vincent DePaul Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his "sweetheart" wife of over 66 years, Marguerite; seven children, Carl "Pat" (Mary) Jr. of Cross Plains, Jim (Barb) of Columbia, MO, Kate (Mike) Brown of Arvada, CO, Kristy (Dennis) Frame of Mazomanie, Janean (Gene) Hill of Mazomanie, Andrea (Joe) Jennings of Arena, and Kevin Jones of Madison; 19 grandchildren, Bill, Bob, Dan and Pete Jones; David, Karen and Steve Jones; Jules, Jodee, Andy and Carla Love; Tammy Pauley and Beth Brickl; Russell and Shaun Stuessy; Megan, Emery, Willie and Gianna Jennings; six step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, Brittany, Dakota and Judy Jones; Kayleigh, Jacob and Betsy Pauley; Ashley, Allan and Dennis Brickl; Alex Stuessy; a brother, Thomas (Phyllis) Jones of Capron, IL; countless other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Jones; and five siblings.

A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. BARNABAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Mazomanie, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 with Fr. John DelPriore officiating. Following Mass military rites will be conducted by Greening-Buelow American Legion Post 437. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Barnabas Cemetery. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Highway 14 West, Mazomanie, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, where the Knights of Columbus will lead the Rosary at 6:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
