Carol J.
Hounsell
September 11, 1945 – February 9, 2026
Carol J. Hounsell, age 80, passed away at her home in Sauk City surrounded by her family. She was born in Fond du Lac on Sept. 11, 1945 to the late Norman and Jane (Weber) Henke. She graduated from Rosendale High School in 1963. She was united in marriage on June 27, 1964 to James E. Hounsell at the Zion Lutheran Church, Van Dyne. Together they operated the Hounsell Dairy farm for 25 years in the Town of Black Wolf. In February of 1990 they moved to Sauk City where James worked for Fuch's trucking and Carol worked as a housekeeper at the Cedarberry Inn and the Sauk Prairie Hospital until she retired in 2012. Her family and faith were important to her and she was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church, Prairie du Sac and former member of St. John's Lutheran Oshkosh. She loved her flowers, garden, her children, and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband, James. Her children, Cheryl (Mark) Kunde, Donald (Ann) Hounsell, Brenda (Rodney) Juedes, Matt (Courtney) Hounsell; 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Jonathan) Walsh, Amanda (Branden) Schleif, Stacey (Alex) Schoonover, Mitchell (Katie) Kunde, Rhonda Kunde, Wanda (Corey) Drexler, Stephanie Hounsell, Nathaniel (Gabi Padovano) Hounsell, Heather and Heidi (Alex VanBuren) Juedes and Chloie Hounsell; 13 great grandchildren; sister in law, Kaye Stahmann and brother in-law, Dave Cronce. She is further survived by many god children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Zander Hounsell; 3 siblings, Shirley Cronce, David (Kathy) Henke, Kay (Chuck) Ebert and brother in-law, Raymond Stahmann.
Carol's family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the Sauk Prairie Ambulance EMS and First Responders and to Agrace Hospice for their care.
Memorials may be made in Carol's name to the Sauk Prairie EMS, St. James Lutheran Church or to Agrace Hospice.
A funeral service for Carol will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City, a visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be held in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Blackwolf Township.
