Obituary

Charles M. Blau, age 89, passed away at his home in Merrimac on Sunday, July 19, 2015. He was born in Plain on June 7, 1926 to the late Frank and Rose (Ruhland) Blau. Charles married Helen Rozinski on October 30, 1949. He farmed in Caledonia Township since 1950 and worked as a brick mason for Findorf Construction for 15 years. After Helen's death on April 1, 1964, Charles quit bricklaying to better take care of his boys. He married Geraldine Pings on Sept. 30, 1967. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2006. They continued to farm until they moved to Merrimac in 1976. Charles enjoyed visiting with his neighbors in Merrimac, woodworking, playing cards, hunting, and antique cars. For many years he was a member of St. Camillus at Durward's Glen. Upon its closing he became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Merrimac.

Charles is survived by 2 sons, Charles F. "Jr." (Jennie) Blau, and Randy J. (Mary) Blau; 7 grandchildren, Karl Blau, Kathleen Gilliam, Neil (Beth) Blau, Alyssa (Scott) Burdick, Jessalyn (Jeff) Cross, Adrienne (Brandon) Hartwell, and Jerianne (Ted Wergin) Blau; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 siblings, Florence Krejchik, Alvin (Karen) Blau, Rose Ann Blau, John (Lorell) Blau, Leonard (Janice) Blau, and Luke (Chris) Blau. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and both wives, he was preceded in death by an adopted brother, Laddie Kout; a sister, Mary Lange; and 3 brothers, Edwin, Leo and Joe Blau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Baraboo, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015 with Fr. Jay Poster officiating. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 and also at the church on Saturday after 9:00 a.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's of the Pines Cemetery at St. Camillus.


Charlie's family would like to thank Wally and Irene for all the coffee and visits; and to Charlie's neighbor, Grace, for all her loving care.
