Obituary

Clara J. Ziegler, age 88, passed away at the Sauk Prairie Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.  She was born at home in Roxbury on July 27, 1936 to the late Raphael and Clarice (Carncross) Breunig.  She attended Catholic grade school at St. Aloysius and graduated from Sauk City High School in 1954.  Clara started cooking and baking at age 12 and worked early on at her parents Eat Shop on highway 12 by the Sauk City bridge, later at Lange's Café, the Penguin in downtown Sauk City and Lake Wisconsin Country Club.  Later she went on to work for J.T. Grocery and then Lands End in Cross Plains until she retired.

As a young mother she was a boy scout troop leader and worked hard for her kids.  Clara was united in marriage to Donald Ziegler on May 27, 1980.  Together they lived and farmed in the Roxbury township for 30 years until they moved to town.  She and Don enjoyed playing cards and sheepshead in several different card clubs and enjoyed traveling and cruises; with some of their favorite trips being the Mediterranean, Hawaii and Alaska.

Clara will be remembered for her generous heart, quick wit, strong work ethic and her faith.  She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo.  She is survived by her husband, Don; her sons, Jeff and Jim Kippley, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a sister Terry Kirch.  She is further survived by the large Kippley, Breunig and Ziegler families and friends and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Renee; an infant son, Greg; her brother, Gordy "Bruno" Breunig; brother in-law, Randall Kirch and sister in-law, Ruth Ziegler.

Clara's family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the Healthcare Professionals and staff at Sauk Prairie Hospital and to Judy and the Staff at Our House in Lodi for their love and concern for Clara.

As per Clara's wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024 at St. Norbert Catholic Church, Roxbury with Fr. James Kotch celebrating.  Burial will be held in the St. Aloysius Cemetery.
