Clarence H. "Buzz" Mathewson, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. He was born in Mazomanie Township on November 16, 1918, the son of the late Clarence A. and Alice (Birch) Mathewson. He was united in marriage to Alice Kalsow Jacobi on July 17, 1976. Clarence spent the first 85 years of his life at the Mathewson Family Farm. The farm has been in the Mathewson family since 1858. Buzz purchased the farm in 1958 from his father. For twenty-five years he grew sweet corn for the Oconomowoc Canning Company. Buzz served several years on the Halfway Prairie Creamery Board and also served as an election poll worker for the Town of Mazomanie. He is survived by his wife, Alice; step-son, Charles (Mary) Jacobi; granddaughters, Amy (Jason) Wollangk and Molly (friend Craig Bryant) Jacobi; great-grandson, Grant Wollangk; a special niece, Betty (Jury) Schlough; a special great-nephew; Neil (Kathy) Schlough; three sisters, Gladys Kennedy, Clarice Fleharty and Maxine Cairns; three nephews, Richard Kennedy, Joseph (Dianne) Kennedy and Peter (JoAnne) Tollefson; two nieces, Leslie (Floyd) Tyson and Carolyn (Rob) Andringa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Leppla and Mildred Tollefson. A memorial service will be held at MAZOMANIE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 with Pastor Carolyn Kennedy officiating. Friends may call at the church, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to District One EMS, Mazomanie.
