Claude William Hodgson entered his heavenly home on October 10, 2014 at 7:25 PM after a short battle with cancer. He passed away at his home in Newberry, Florida in the arms of his wife and granddaughter. He was born March 21, 1935 in Mazomanie, WI. He graduated from Mazomanie High School and after farming with his father he entered the US Marines and later US Army, and was stationed at Ft. Monmouth, NJ where he met his wife of 58 years Ruthann (Becker). They were married August 11, 1956 in Summit, NJ.
Claude was a carpenter in both Wisconsin and Vero Beach, FL. After severe heart problems, he became Certified as a Plans Examiner and Building Inspector for Indian River County, FL and ultimately retired from there. After his retirement he moved to Newberry, FL where he and some of his family helped construct a new home. He was a member of the North Florida Antique Tractor Club and the American Legion Post #91 in Trenton, FL. He loved golfing, carpentry, and cheering for the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthann, four sons: Gregory (Sharon), Todd (Terri), Brian (Debbie), Brett. A daughter, Sharilyn. Nine grandchildren, Kristin, Sean, Rachel, Amy, Zachary, Amanda, Andrew, Emily, Eric and three great-grandchildren: Arden, Ethan and Ashton.
He is also survived by 6 brothers and 4 sisters: Ben (Luella), Don (Dot,dec'd), Paul (Karen), Phil (Gloria), Joe (Carol), and Ned. Barbara(Lawrence,dec'd) Paar, Evelyn (LaVern) Roessler, Averil (Gary) Sutcliffe and Verna (Don) Wallace all of Wisconsin, plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Effie (Schultz) Hodgson.
There will be a viewing at the Milam Funeral Home, 22405 W. Newberry Rd., Newberry, FL. on Wednesday evening Oct. 15, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and a church service at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 9400 W. Newberry Rd., Gainesville, FL. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM. On Friday, he will be sent to Wisconsin. There will be a service at the Hooverson Funeral Home, Mazomanie on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM followed by burial with Military Rites at the Mazomanie Cemetery, Mazomanie, WI.
