Cleo F. Schaefer, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. She was born September 7, to William and Ethel (Byrns) Piernot in Sauk City. She married the love of her life, Maurice Schaefer; and they were happily married for 67 years.
Cleo was the ultimate homemaker and mother, devoting her life to caring for her immediate and extended family; always putting others before herself. Her apple pies, cinnamon rolls, and cream puffs were simply the best. She enjoyed playing euchre and poker with family and friends. She waited to re-enter the workforce when her youngest child was well into fourth grade. She was employed by the Farmers and Citizens Bank in Sauk City for 14 years. Upon retirement Cleo and Maurice enjoyed traveling and visiting many countries in Europe; especially Switzerland. They also cruised the Panama Canal and visited countries in and around South America and spent several winters in Florida.
She is survived by her husband Maurice; daughter Connie (David) Roundy; sons Mark (Shiela) and Steve (Kari); grandchildren Heather (Dave) Haas, Sara and Keith Schaefer; great-granddaughters Alexis and Taylor Haas and Marijane and Madison Bullis. She was preceded in death by brothers William, Malcolm and John; sister Luniel; and beloved grandson Kevin Schaefer.
The family would like to thank Dr. McAuliffe and the staff of Maplewood Nursing Facility for their exceptional care and concern during Cleo's residency.
A graveside service will be held at the SAUK CITY CEMETERY, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Church of Christ, Sauk City.
