Daniel James "Booner" Lucey, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 22, 2014 on opening deer-gun morning, doing what he loved, after he harvested his buck. Booner was born in Madison on August 1, 1946 to the late Donald and Kathleen (Kerl) Lucey. He graduated in 1964 from Wisconsin Heights High School and married Jean Thor on January 2, 1971. Booner worked at Wick Buildings for over 40 years, and later at Meigs Inc. He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, hunting his own 40 acres, and looked forward to trips to Stewart, IA to harvest brown susans for ice fishing. Booner could be found socializing with his morning coffee clutch at the Mazo Mobil and his afternoon soda at R.J.'s.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Arena; daughter, Jill Lucey and her girls, Alexa and Ava; a grandson Alan Sturm of Madison; his miniature schnauzer, Molly; 2 sisters, Julie Gilbertson of Verona and Mary Olson of Las Vegas, NV; sister in-law, Debby Lucey of Mazomanie; mother in-law, Marion Thor of Madison; brother in-law, Terry (Margie) Thor from Up North; he is further survived by other relatives and many friends.
He will be re-united with his parents; son Brett, brother Tim, niece Heather Olson, and father in-law Walter Thor.
A celebration of Booner's life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at R.J's Saloon, 8 American Legion St., Mazomanie. In honor of Booner, casual and hunting attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
