Daniel Carl Mielke, age 67, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison on Saturday, Aug 15, 2015. He was born in Reedsburg to the late Carl and Caroline (Schwenkhoff) Mielke on December 20, 1947. Dan attended Sauk Prairie Schools, graduating in 1966. He married Diana Knuth on October 9, 1971 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Baraboo. Dan started working in the feed business with his father who owned and operated the Leland Feed Mill, until his death in 1975. He continued to work in the feed business for Baraboo Farmers Co-op, Co-op Country Partners in Sauk City and currently he worked for Star Blends of Sparta. Dan was an active member of St. John's in Leland and was a past council member. He was a past member of the Honey Creek Rod and Gun Club, Honey Creek Snowmobile Club and was past Assistant Leader for Explorer Post 2391 for 17 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing sheepshead, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Danette "Nettie"; a son, Dustin; 2 nephews, Curt (Karen) Bartnick and Andy (Elona) Bartnick; stepfather, Eugene Fenske; step-siblings, Russell (Laura) Fenske, Gary (Cheryl) Fenske, Sandy Fiegl, Jeff (Patti) Fenske, Chris Achenbach, and Jim Fenske; he is further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Bartnick; and step-brother Kendall Fiegl.
A celebration of Dan's Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at St. John's Church in Leland. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Dan's name to the church. Dan's family would like to thank the staff at Sauk Prairie Hospital; St. Mary's Hospital and all their Denzer friends and neighbors for their care and support.
