Darlene Ann Kahl, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024 at Greenway Manor in Spring Green. She was born Nov. 22, 1935 to the late Reynold and Ann (Paar) Schoepp. Darlene worked at St. Mary's Hospital and met Urban Maier there; they were married May, 1955; he preceded her in death in Jan. 1973. Darlene later married Ernest Kahl Oct. 15, 1988; he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2014. She worked at Heartland Country Village and volunteered for the Northwest Dane Co. Senior Center in Cross Plains and cleaned homes in the greater Madison area for the majority of her life. She made wonderful rice krispy treats, puppy chow and chocolate chip cookies and always looked forward to family events and loved seeing and visiting her grandchildren and great grandchildren any chance she could.
In Darlene's own words, "one never knows", she is survived by her children, Jesse Maier, Steve (Janice) Maier, Donna (Alan) Hicks, Linda (Randy) Petersen; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; her siblings, Robert (Nancy) Schoepp, Joan Garske, Alice (Howard) West, Marvin (Norma) Schoepp, step sister Sr. Julie Dermody; she is further survived by Ernest's family, Larry (Kari) Kahl, Roger (Marie) Kahl, Bonnie (Steven) Hering, Sherri (Daniel) Hering, Randy (Kandy) Kahl, Tim (Mary) Kahl, David (Ann) Kahl, Bev (John) Whalen, 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Urban and Ernest; she was preceded in death by her daughter., Linda, grandson Jason Hicks, a sister Sharon Maier, step mother Rose Schoepp and step siblings Herbie and Marie Dermody.
Darlene's family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the Greenway Terrace and Greenway Manor staff, St. Croix Hospice and to Dr. Janelle Hupp and the Wisconsin Heights Clinic for the wonderful care she received.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 410 Cramer St., Mazomanie. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 10:45 am the Hooverson Funeral Home, Mazomanie. Burial will follow in the St. Barnabas Catholic Cemetery.
