Obituary

Darwin M. Zick "Mert", 86 of Prairie du Sac, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Madison. He was born February 12, 1938, to Merton and Anna (Diske) Zick in Prairie du Sac. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He married Mary Margaret Weber on December 31, 1960, and they had 5 children.

Darwin worked for Hottmann Construction for many years. In his years he enjoyed hunting at the quarry or Badger Ammunition plant, fishing, ice fishing, playing euchre and drinking a beer.  In more recent years he enjoyed going to visit his friends at Poor Nate's and Frankie's, watching old westerns, NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers and doing word search puzzles.

He is survived by his 5 children; Chris (Lee Rogers) of Kona, HI, Steve (Jen Paulus) of Blackhawk, Amy Zick Harman of Waunakee, Jeff (Marlene) of Prairie du Sac and Ken (Rhonda) of North Freedom; 8 grandchildren, Branden (Carly) Zick of Lodi, Heather Zick of Sauk City, Blake (Hailey) Zick of Sauk City, Marly (Carter) Hellenbrand of Sauk City, Morgan Harman of Prairie du Sac, Nicole (Matt) Ganser of Prairie du Sac, Natash Cook of Baraboo and Preston (Lorell) Cook of Baraboo; 6 great grandchildren, Elden and Rhett Zick of Lodi and Lincoln, Sienna, Bennett and Quinn Ganser of Prairie du Sac; 3 sisters in  law, Carol Zick of Sussex, Sister Priscilla Weber of St. Louis and Jeanette Breunig of Prairie du Sac, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, Merton and Anna Zick, his in laws Peter and Margaret Weber, his twin brother, Duane, brother, Gene, sister, Harolyn Schultz, brothers in law; Louis Breunig and Valarius Schultz and a special uncle, August Diske.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Madison for their care of Darwin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3 at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City from 11am to 1pm followed by Military Honors at St. Aloysius Cemetery. The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life and luncheon at the Dorf Haus, Roxbury, WI from 2pm until 5pm
