Darwin John Nelson, age 82, passed away on Sat. Mar. 12, 2016 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City. He was born in Austin, Mn. on Jul. 5, 1933 to the late Frank and Irene (Schwartz) Nelson. Darwin was a graduate of Marquette Law School and practicing attorney. He later served as Village Administrator in Merrimac for 20 years, retiring in 2001, and was a member of the Merrimac Fire Dept. Darwin was a founding member of the Wisconsin Business Development in Madison. He married Theresa Schick on Dec. 28, 1957; she preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 1986.

Darwin is survived by, his daughter, Julia (Jon) Moody; 3 sons, Fred (Darlene), Darwin Jr. (Marie), and Marti; 2 grandchildren, Michelle (Christopher) Buskirk and Robert Nelson.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Duane Nelson.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Thur. Mar. 17, 2016 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 101 Madison St., Sauk City. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wed. Mar., 16, 2016 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:45 pm. Visitation will be held the morning of the mass at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 11:15 am.
Darwin's family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff on Maplewood Nursing Home, Maplewood Village, and Sauk Prairie Health Care. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
