Dawn Marie Evert, age 57, of Mazomanie/Marxville, passed away at home on October 14, 2026, after a valiant battle with glioblastoma.
Dawn was born on April 12, 1969, to Jan and Colleen (Riffel) Kraemer. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in Plain and graduated from River Valley High School in 1987. Following high school, she attended MATC in Madison. On January 9, 1993, Dawn married Scott Evert at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. They began their life together in Marxville and later bought the Niendorf farm, where they raised their four children, Hannah, Isabelle, Lane, and Nathan.
Dawn worked part-time for her friend Dana at WedPlan, helping with the bookkeeping and, as she described it, serving as the emotional support person. She also volunteered at the New Heights welcome desk and took on the enormous task of keeping the books for the farm.
With a gift for making people feel welcome, Dawn rarely walked into a room without finding someone she knew or making a new friend before she left. She noticed those who seemed alone and made sure they felt included. She was always there for her friends, ready to listen, offer support, or lend a helping hand. Dawn had a way of making people feel valued and cared for.
Dawn and Scott enjoyed traveling together, escaping Wisconsin winters for warmer destinations such as Punta Cana, Mexico, Hawaii, and Florida. Their trip to the Kohler toilet factory for their 25th anniversary was especially memorable—a fitting reminder that their life together included adventure, shared experiences, and a healthy sense of humor.
Nerding out over astronomy with her son Nate and her friend Ixchel was one of her passions. Their shared fascination with the night sky took her to Arkansas to watch a lunar eclipse. She always looked forward to the chance to see the northern lights. Dawn also enjoyed girls’ trips, spa days, and spoiling her golden retriever, Charlie, with plenty of treats. She and Scott cherished Sunday drives together, spending time by the water, and listening to live music.
Above all, Dawn loved her husband, children, and the life they built together on their farm. Facing her diagnosis with grace and acceptance, she was able to remain at home until the end, cared for by her daughters and surrounded by her family. The farm was the heart of their family life, especially during cherished Sunday evening suppers. It was the place she loved, wanted to be, and truly called home.
Dawn will be deeply missed by her husband, Scott; her children, Hannah (Nick) Plansky, Isabelle, Lane, and Nathan Evert; her mother, Colleen Kraemer; her mother-in-law, Sharon Evert; and her siblings, Pete (Diane), Joan (John) Statz, Erin (Jim) Mueller, Tony, Josh (Joy), and Matt (Gwen) Kraemer. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jan Kraemer; her sister, Jill Kraemer; and her father-in-law, Harland Evert.
A silent visitation of reflection will be held at New Heights Lutheran Church – The Grove, 314 Anne Street, Mazomanie, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. A memorial service led by Pastor Rob Nelson will follow at 12:00 noon. Dawn’s life will then be celebrated at the Dorf Haus, 8931 County Highway Y, Roxbury.
Dawn’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to the friends and family who surrounded her with meals, visits, prayers, and love, and to Agrace for their compassionate care.
