Dean Arick Sutherland passed away on July 13, 2021 of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on December 14, 1945 in Madison to the late Arick and Hazel (Staven) Sutherland.  He grew up on the east side of Madison and graduated from Madison East High School in 1964.  Dean majored in Literature at UW-Madison, but just couldn't face those foreign language credits to graduate.

He worked as facilities maintenance manager for Dane County and other private businesses, and also remodeled as an independent contractor.  Dean enjoyed his family, and we have received several messages from nieces and nephews about their warm memories of him from their childhood.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri Hannay, whom he married in 1973, his children: Michael (Trisha), Stephen, of Mazomanie, Meg (Bryant) Gill of Mineral Point, and his son-in-law Nick Schulze of Fall River. His is also survived by four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, his parents, and a daughter, Aricka Schulze.

A picnic to celebrate Dean's life will be held on August 29th, 2021, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Tenney Park John Wall Family Pavilion, Madison.
