Dennis L. "Smitty" Smith, age 63, died on Saturday, September 19, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung disease. He was born in Madison on July 19, 1946, the son of James H. and Verda L.(Wallace) Smith. Dennis will be remembered for his love of cars, his great stories, and his joking ways. He is survived by his mother, Verda Smith of Mazomanie; two sons, Troy (Jeni) Smith of Mazomanie and Danny Smith of Eau Claire; a daughter, Kelly Smith of Mazomanie; two grandchildren, Hudson and Lauren Smith of Mazomanie; his friend and companion, Shirley Anding of Mazomanie; a brother, James "Larry" Smith of Minnesota; 3 sisters, Cheryl Smith (Bernie Morzuch) of Massachusetts, Shannon (George) Senger of Merrimac, and Shelley Smith of Spring Green; aunt and uncle, Mary Helen and Louie Handel of Mazomanie; his life-long friends, Slim and Mort; Dennis and Shirley's special cat, Sierra; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Smith, and a son, Todd R. Smith. Funeral services will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Mazomanie, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 with Pastor Rob Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Mazomanie Cemetery. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Mazomanie, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Dennis is finally at peace and will be greatly loved and missed by his family and friends.
