Obituary

Dec 3, 1933 - Feb 24, 2024

Dolores Catherine Flogel of rural Mazomanie, died peacefully on February 24,2024 in the presence of family after years of struggling with Dementia. She was born on December 3, 1933, on a farm in Livingston WI, to Leo and Veronica Pettera. She grew up in Platteville. The Pettera and Flogel families enjoyed many gatherings together in her youth. Hank finally got the nerve to ask Dolores to the college prom, and she knew he met all the qualities that she desired in a husband.  She fulfilled her promise to her father to teach for at least one year after college, and at the end of the term they married on Decoration Day, May 31, 1954. They started farming 50/50 with Hank's dad in Cuba City, WI, and later found a farm to purchase in the fertile valley between Mazomanie and Black Earth in 1961, where they raised eleven lively children.

Her strong Catholic faith was evident from an early age.  She attended St. Rose Convent in La Crosse for 2 years of high school.  She continued her teaching legacy as a religious education teacher and later directed programs at St. Barnabas.

She loved baking cakes for all occasions.  Her creativity brought brilliance to family and friends' weddings over the years.  She is endeared to many as "Ma Flogel" as the cook for Wyalusing and Badger Camp for the elementary schools' nature stays.  She was a doting grandmother and was known to attend performances, athletic events and never missed a birthday by either making a cake or sending a card.

Dolores is survived by her sister Mary Hall, her brother Gerry (Marie) Pettera, sister-in-law Ruth Roling, her children Thomas (Carol), Aggie Macdonald, Leo (Diana), Ray, Cletus (Sue), Jim, Therese (Jim) McKenzie, Hal (Sara), Paul (Judy), Allen (Jen), and Steve (Lisa), 29 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Flogel; brothers Bob and Bill Pettera; son-in-law Mike Macdonald; daughters-in-law Val Flogel & Dawn Flogel; and grandson Brian Schulze.

A visitation will be held Sunday, March 3,2024 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, Hwy 14 West Mazomanie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 4,2024 at 11:00 am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 410 Cramer St., Mazomanie.  Interment will be held at the St. Barnabas Cemetery. A luncheon will follow graveside services at Grandma Mary's Cafe, 175 us-14 Arena Wi.
