Obituary

Don "CrowDog" Murry, age 72, walked on Feb. 28, 2018 from St. Clare Hospice house in Baraboo after a brief battle with cancer. He lived his life true to himself, with honor, and with generosity and kindness to those he loved.

CrowDog was very proud of his Native American Heritage and proud to be part of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of the Pine Ridge Reservation in Southwest South Dakota. He enjoyed telling stories of his time on the reservation with his grandfather, brothers, and sister and if you caught him in the right mood, he would speak and sing to you in his native language.

He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp and served four back-to-back tours in Vietnam for a total of six years. He was wounded and captured and would often tell the story of how he escaped using a hidden knife and made his way across the jungle "with his leg three-quarters of the way blown off" to return to his platoon. He also would sadly talk of how only he and two others from that platoon survived to return home.

After achieving his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, he worked hard his entire life holding many jobs including a machine repairman who traveled the country, as a logger, and finally at Milwaukee Valve in Prairie du Sac as a machinist. At one point he and his partner ran the second largest beekeeping business in the United States.

He met his partner in life, Donna Anderson, on Sweetest Day in October, 1994. They started with nothing but by working together built a good life filled with love and adventure. Together they enjoyed flea markets and antique shows where they never knew what treasures they would find. They also enjoyed traveling around the United States and each year would visit their friends in Canada. He especially enjoyed his time at Bear Creek Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary in Barrie, Ontario where he had his own wolf pack. His wolf Nequa (named after him) was especially dear to him. He spent countless collecting and recycling aluminum cans to financially support his pack.

CrowDog also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and he and Donna traveled the country on them. He was a member of the Sauk Prairie H.O.G. Chapter for many years.

He was a good man and his loss will leave a void in many lives.

As per CrowDog's wishes, no services will be held.
