Donald Eugene "Butch" Wenger, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at HospiceCare, Inc. in Madison. He was born in Caledonia Township on September 20, 1938, the son of the late John and Frances (Schneiter) Wenger. Butch graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1956. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served from June 10, 1957 until March 9, 1961. He was united in marriage to Helen Hart on November 5, 1966 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City. Butch was employed by Dairy Equipment Company in Madison, retiring March 2001. He enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, and gambling. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Prairie du Sac, two daughters, Angie (Jared) Heim of Pell Lake and Jessie (Casey Ryan) Wenger of Sauk City; a grandson, Kaleb Heim; a sister, Frances Beckerjeck of Leavenworth, KS; two sisters-in-law, Colleen Meyers of Sun Prairie and Jane Royston of Prairie du Sac, a brother-in-law, Bill (Jo) Hart of Prairie du Sac; three grand-dogs, Tessa, Macie and Raven; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcy Schultz and Betty Schultz; a brother, Bob Wenger; brother-in-law, Bob Hart; sister-in-law, Patricia Mack; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Madeline Hart. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2009 with Pastor Sally Mitchell officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Merrimac. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, and also after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
