IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald "Don"
C. Hosking
January 19, 1942 – March 6, 2024
Donald C. Hosking, age 82, of Mazomanie and formerly Prairie du Sac, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Wm S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison. He was born in Hurley, WI on Jan. 19, 1942 to the late Clayton and Martha (Panich) Hosking. He attended and graduated from the Weberville, MI. High School; class of 1961. Following High School, Don served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1962-1965 in Korea working in the motor pool and as a mechanic.
Don's love of vehicles continued as he worked for Crawford & Co. as an auto appraiser for close to 10 years. After years of working on cars in his backyard garage shop, he later used his talent to start his own business; Midstate Auto Body in the Prairie du Sac industrial park where he performed his "magic" fixing and painting cars for customers "up on the prairie" and rebuilding old and custom cars for the next 20 years until he retired in 1999. He then spent most of the rest of his days tinkering once again in his backyard shop just for the love of it.
All of his life Don enjoyed playing pool; and in his younger years he played in several area leagues, and was always willing to give someone a lesson. In retirement he enjoyed golf, and riding around the neighborhood on his golf cart, the "red chariot of death"; trying to outsmart the gophers. All summer long he and Susie enjoyed car shows and car events; and often could be found enjoying a Miller High Life with his friends and family.
He is survived by the love of his life, Susie VanRiper; his children, daughter Denise (Jeff) Houden and his grandchildren, Zack and great grand daughter Millie, Jacob, and Breezy (Omead) Kyanvash; his son, Greg Hosking and grandson, Dalton; Susie's children, Ryan (Carrie) VanRiper and their children, Emily and Brayden; Nichole (Chris) Schwoerer; brothers, David, John and Brian Hosking; the mother of his children, Vi Hosking and sister in-law, Ida Mae Hosking-Tenant. Don is further survived buy his nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jim, Bob, Dale and Rick and sister in-law, Wilma Hosking and sister in-law, Nancy Hosking-Coffee.
Don's family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Heartland Hospice and to their family members, and friends for helping keep Don comfortable at home as long as he was able; and to the nurses and doctors at the V.A. Hospital for the care they provided Don.
There will be a celebration of Don's life on June 2, 2024 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm at Grandma Mary's/Brisbane Hall, Hwy 14, Arena.
