Donald "The Herbinator" Herbrand, age 75, passed away on December 16, 2014, at the home of his daughter, with loving family by his side. Born December 24, 1938, the only child of Leroy and Catherine (Schroeder) Herbrand, Donnie was a true original. Even in the face of cancer he was quick to joke, "This week I find out if I'll be whistling along or on the short street."
Donnie grew up on his family farm and married Janet Stoffels on June 24, 1959. Over the years he worked in construction, farming, and truck driving. He especially enjoyed NASCAR, feeding the birds, and in retirement collected vintage tractors, kept up with "The Young & The Restless," and cherished time visiting with friends and family.
Donnie is survived and will be greatly missed by sons Terry (Patty) of Prairie du Sac and Tim (Sue) of Sauk City, daughter Tami Vodak (Dave), of Theresa; grandchildren Tyler (Jen), Tara Jo, Austin, Carrissa; great grandchildren Kaylynn and Melanie Jo; and brother-in-law Otto "Butch" Stoffels. He was predeceased by his parents and by Janet (2006).
Don's family thanks his many Friends, Dr. Heun, and Home Health United-Hospice for their care and support. Special friends Mark Geisler, Mark Hale and Dawn Danz-Hale, your support to our Dad will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 20, 2014 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Sauk City. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family suggests memorials be directed to Home Health United Hospice, Baraboo.
Dad, Papa, Donnie, we will always remember your offbeat philosophy and your way of inventing nicknames and turning a phrase like nobody else. We are comforted by calling to mind your special way of saying goodbye: "Later Later."
