Donald George Moen, age 82, passed away on Thur. Feb. 11, 2016 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jul. 5, 1933 to the late Magnus and Ruth (George) Moen. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Don met Delores Baierl in the second grade, and after returning from the Navy they married on Jun. 6, 1956. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for the Village of Sauk City for over 30 years retiring as Superintendent in 1995. Don was past president and board member of the Municipal Electrical Utilities of Wisconsin Association, member of the Lachmund-Cramer VFW and Kuoni-Reuter American Legion Posts, 40et8, and St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Don was a former stock car and dirt track racer, and was an avid NASCAR fan since. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Antique Tap, and was campground host for over 20 years at Mirror Lake State Park.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; 9 children, Judy (Dave) Ederer of Sauk City, Joanne (Dale) Willis of Ft. Worth, Tx., Cathy (John) Ballweg of Merrimac, Carol (Tim) Ballweg of Prairie du Sac, Dan (Nancy) Moen of Twin Lakes, Janet Moen of Honolulu, Hi., Tim (Monica) Moen of Randolph, DeeDee (Philip) Brickl of Roxbury, and Barb (Jim) Mundt of Sauk City; 27 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; 8 siblings, Darlene Cammers, Ann Lyon, Phil Moen, Allen Moen, Mary Gaetz, Janece Olson, Linda Linzmeier, and Beth Hiller. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 siblings, Kenneth, Robert, James, Mike, and Steve.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Fri. Feb.19, 2016 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 115 Madison St., Sauk City. A visitation will be held on Thur. Feb. 18 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:45 pm. Visitation will also be held the morning of the service from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the funeral home. Burial with Military Rites accorded by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694 will be held at the church cemetery.
Don's family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood Village, Maplewood Nursing Home, and Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care of Don.
