Doris G. Steuber, 97, passed away on June 24, 2016 at Pine Villa Memory Care , Prairie du Sac, with family by her side. She was born in Sumpter Township on August 19, 1918 to the late Ralph and Celia (Mather) Kindschi. Doris was a graduate of Prairie du Sac High School. She was united in marriage to Ralph D. Steuber on June 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1994. Doris attended Reedsburg Normal School and taught country schools before she married. Her family was a part of the farming community in Sumpter Township, evicted from their farm by the federal government, later known as Badger Army Ammunition Plant. It left a huge impact on her life.
Her talents in cooking, baking and music allowed her to work and serve in the Steuber's Rest Haven, Sauk Prairie school district in food preparation and baking. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Sauk City and directed its choir for many years. She never missed an opportunity to bake cakes and cookies for family and friends. Doris enjoyed square dancing with the Tri County Squares, playing cards and following her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events and activities.
She is survived by her three children, Doug (Sherri) of Prairie du Sac , Kleo Harris of Castle Pines, Colorado, and Terry (Cindy) of Prairie du Sac; a sister, Kay (Harold) Mountford of Poynette; sisters in law, Madeline Kindschi , Sharal Steuber and Caroline Steuber; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Richard (Carmen) , her sister Alberta (Lawrence) Meier, son in law Ted , sister in law, Shirley (Merton) Moely and brothers in law, Theron and Edsel.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 18, 2016 at First United Church of Christ, Sauk City, WI, with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
