Mrs. Dorothea (Gruber) Steckelberg, age 96 of Prairie du Sac, died on August 4, 2009 at Maplewood Nursing Home. She was born May 16, 1913 in the town of Prairie du Sac, the daughter of Christian and Katherine (Stelter) Gruber. On August 5, 1930 she married Herbert H. Steckelberg. The couple farmed in the town of Prairie du Sac for 39 years. The summer of 1970, they moved to Pine Vista Mobil Home Park which they managed until their retirement in 1985. She was a member of Concordia U.M. Church, participating in the Gleaners class and U.M. Women; Sauk Prairie Eastern Star; and a 4-H leader. Survivors include her daughter, Dolores (Robert) Bahr of Prairie du Sac; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Margaret Wittmere; two brothers Ivan and Lloyd; her son Arvin; and a grandson, Mark Steckelberg. Memorial Service will be held on August 22 at Concordia U.M. Church on the corner of 5th and Galena in Prairie du Sac. Visitation with the family will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Concordia U.M. Church. The Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. A lunch will follow at the church. Rev. Jeff Virchow will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church or an organization of your choice would be appreciated.
