Obituary

Dorothy E. Breunig, age 86, of Sauk City passed away at Sauk Prairie Hospital on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.  She was born in Columbia Co. on Feb. 26, 1939 to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Falkenstein) Stoltenburg.  Dorothy was a graduate from Poynette High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to Carl M. Breunig Jr. on August 29, 1959; he preceded her in death on June 29, 2003.  In her younger years she worked as a waitress at Lang's Café in downtown Sauk City, eventually moving on to Maplewood Nursing Home as a housekeeper.  Later she worked at Burnstads grocery until they closed and at Piggly Wiggly until she retired.  In retirement she volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul.  She enjoyed antiques, flea markets, took great pride in being an independent woman, maintaining and the care of her home and had a great love of her family.  She was particular of her lawn and loved her flowers, both of which she was able to maintain well into her 80's.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Steven (Marianne) Breunig of Sauk City and Beverly (Steven) Patterson of Columbus; siblings, Mary Ann Frank, Albert (Betty) Stoltenburg; sister in-law, Shirley Breunig.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Carl and Bernadine Breunig Sr., siblings, Frances (Wallace) Grotzke; brothers in law, Juergen Frank and Daniel Breunig.

A private family interment will be held in the St. Aloysius Cemetery.
