Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Enge, passed away at the age of 101, on February 26th at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. Known for her creativity, perseverance, and devoted caring for family and community, Dorothy enjoyed a full and productive life.

Born to Halvor and Ida Sharpe, Dorothy lived in Portland, North Dakota, until moving to Fargo as a young woman to earn a Bachelors Degree in Education. She met her husband Robert Enge while they taught together in Oconomowoc, WI.  Married in 1941, they moved to the Enge home farm near Witwen, WI, where they farmed, raised three children, cared for Dorothy's sister Hazel Sharpe, and were active in the community.

Dorothy enjoyed directing and acting in church plays as well as teaching sewing and tailoring classes in the Sauk-Prairie area. Both Dorothy and Robert eventually returned to their careers in education.  Dorothy worked as a  teacher/librarian in the Mazomanie School District from 1966 to her retirement in 1979.

After retiring with her husband to Sauk City, Dorothy enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad as well as golf, theater, and volunteer work.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, Craig Enge (Laura Jean) of Seattle, WA,

Catherine Douglass (John) of Edisto Island, NC, and Mark Enge (Vicki) of

Poplarville, MS. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, James Douglass of Bonita Springs, FL, and Anna Ojanen of Pittsburgh, PA, and her two great grandchildren, Ayla and Yaiza Ojanen.

Friends and family are welcome to a Celebration of Life Service for Dorothy at 11:00AM on May 1st at St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St. Prairie du Sac. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service.  Dorothy's ashes will be interred in the Black Hawk United Methodist Church cemetery.

Dorothy's family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care provided by the staff of Maplewood Village and Maplewood Sauk Prairie.
