Obituary

Dorothy Marie (Anderson) Schwartz, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Sauk City on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.

She was born in Chicago on July 20, 1933, to Leslie and Eleanor (Schwerzler) Anderson. She was a graduate of Kelvyn Park High School in 1950, Columbus Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Illinois in 1979. She was united in marriage to David Edward Schwartz on June 26, 1954 and settled in Des Plaines, IL.

Dorothy's nursing career spanned 53 years. She had uncommon devotion to her profession and her patients, particularly enjoying her many years working with developmentally disabled children and adults. Everyone she encountered on this path touched her heart and stayed with her always.

Upon her retirement in 2006, she moved to Sauk City to enjoy small town life on the Wisconsin River. Her passions were family, cookbooks and remodeling her cottage.

Dorothy is survived by daughters, Debra Schwartz of Chicago and Donna (Mark) Lynch of Sauk City,
grandchildren, Jessica Schwartz, Christopher (Jennifer) Lynch and Kaitlyn (Jacob) Weimann and
great-granddaughters, Hailee and Elizabeth. Her place as Auntie Gorshie to her niece and many nephews filled her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers, Donald and Richard Anderson.

A funeral service will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 29 with the Rev. Dennis Weis officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 AM until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

The family will be forever grateful to the warm and supportive staff at the Carbone Cancer Center of Madison and the nursing professionals at Meriter Hospital. The care and caring given to Dorothy during her journey gave warmth to even the darkest days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK. 73123-1718 or online at http://www.cancer.org.
