Duane "Barney" Trachsler, age 78, passed away on September 10, 2011 after a short battle with brain and lung cancer. He was born in Franklin Township on August 30, 1933 to Vern and Agnus (Ruhland) Trachsler.In 1955, he was united in marriage to Doris Jean Mallon. Together they raised 3 children and farmed in Irish Valley. Duane was also employed by Sauk County Health Care Center until retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Leland. Doris Jean , died suddenly in 1989, of a heart attack , along with their son Gary in 1997. Barney loved being with his family. He enjoyed getting together and playing Euchre, and making trump without any in his hand, and scoring. Just a gift he had, with the twinkle in his eye.

He is survived by a son , Steven "Pete" (Jeanne) of Plain.
and a daughter, Gail (Dave) Meyer of Sauk City.
Grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) and Garrett Trachsler and Nikki, Ben (Kim), Ashley and Anna Meyer.
2 Great grandchildren, Sam and Brooklyn Ann Trachsler and 4 step great grandchildren, Allayana, Theryn, Paige, and Liliana Kornowski.
Special friend , Karen Norwalk and her children, Todd (Mary), Josh (Krista) Norwalk, their son Easton, and Bobett (Ed) Philips and their children.
A brother: "Bud" Vern (Adeline) Trachsler of Baraboo.
A sister, Faye (Blaine) Tourdot of Reedsburg.
Further survived by nieces, nephews , great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, son , and parents he was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Marie Westedt, Betty Oetzman, Marcella Rhode, Helen Luedkte, and 2 brothers, Kenneth and Ace.


A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011 , at St. John's Lutheran Church , Leland. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, WI.
