Zech
December 31, 1938 – January 23, 2024
Duane Henry Zech, age 85, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024. He was born in Baraboo on Dec. 31, 1938 to the late Lester and Leona (Steckelberg) Zech. He graduated from Prairie du Sac High School; class of 1957. He was united in marriage to Janice Janzen on Jan. 14, 1967; she preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2014. In addition to Janice, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Konner. Duane was remarried on Sept. 26, 2015 to Veda Hughart.
As a young man he participated in FFA. Duane started working at the Sauk City Canning Factory, and later went on to work in maintenance for the Sauk Prairie Hospital for over 32 years and finally retiring in 2017 at the Prairie Clinic.
Duane enjoyed gardening, taking his boys fishing at White Mound, canoeing and bike trips with the Calvary Baptist Church group. He always had a project he was working on around home and loved to watch the Green Bay Packers. Duane was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church; as an active member he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Treasurer and on the church board of directors.
Duane is survived by his wife, Veda; and his 4 sons, Kevin (Kathy) and their children, Kayden and Kourtney; Kurt (Sheila) and their son, Kolyn; Kyle (Theresa) and their children, Tyler and Ashton; and Khris (Rebecca) their daughter, Ava, and stepson Easton. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Sunday January 28th from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service; a Memorial Service for Duane will follow at 4:00pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 309 Water St., Sauk City; a luncheon will follow the service at the church.
As per Duane's wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Calvary Baptist Church, Sauk City.
