For a time they milked goats and she took care of raising the little goats. Dustie was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young, helping out with many of the jobs on the farm. She helped teach Sunday School at St Paul Lutheran church. She and Terry participated in team penning, a rodeo type competition with horses and calves. Dustie traveled to Scotland and loved visiting Port Washington WI to see the lighthouses. She was an avid reader; a favorite pastime was to browse in a book store. Because of her caring nature, Dustie went back to school at MATC and earned her Registered Nurse degree. She worked at Sauk Hospital clinics, Sauk Hospital, and Heartland Country Village. Dustie loved nature, being outdoors, her horses, horse-back riding, walking, hiking, running, taking pictures. She ran in some races and the Madison marathon. Indian Lake County Park and Devil's Lake State Park were favorite parks. She adopted a few rescue dogs that she loved dearly. Dustie took up crocheting a few years ago and gave many wonderful crocheted items as gifts. Dustie showed grace and courage as she battled ovarian cancer and became an advocate for research for early detection of it. She sold some of her crocheted items on a web site, donating a percentage of the profits to ovarian cancer research.
