DuWayne P. Schmitt, age 80, of Roxbury passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at Sauk Prairie Health Care. He was born on July 6, 1935 in Madison to Gustave and Lavina (Hein) Schmitt. He married the love of his life, Ellen Mack on Sept. 30, 1978. Together they built a life with their five boys; Jeffrey, Brian, David, Dean and Christopher. To his joy the family expanded bringing in Meghann, wife of David; and Melissa, wife of Christopher. DuWayne enjoyed gardening, mowing lawn, and spending time with his granddaughter, Abigail Schmitt. He worked for Carl F. Statz for 29 years until he retired in 2009. DuWayne was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 3099, and White Lightening Snowmobile Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; sons, Brian, David (Meghann), and Christopher (Melissa); special granddaughter, Abigail; 2 brothers, Greg (Geri) Schmitt, and Fr. Kent Schmitt; sisters, Del Rose Dockendorff, and Lenore (Dale) Ryan; many in-laws, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jeffrey and Dean; and a sister, Allegra Glimme.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at St. Norbert Catholic Church, Roxbury with Fr. Mike Klarer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and from 9:30 am until 10:45 am the morning of the service. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 3:45 pm on Thurs. at the funeral home.
