Elaine Lila Messer Koehler, age 90, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2010. Born November 2, 1919, to Robert and Helena (Paske) Messer, she spent her childhood in Caledonia Township. She was married to Walter R. Koehler from June 30, 1948 until his death in December 2006. They loved to dance and play cards with their neighbors. Her favorite musical instruments were the organ and piano; but she also played the drums, ukulele and accordion. From an early age, Elaine was proud of her skills in raising and selling poultry, eggs, and garden produce. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Osterfund (Dennis Diehl) of Middleton and Shirley Koehler of Madison; a grandson, Christopher (Rebecca) Osterfund of Plainfield IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sisters, Valeria Ankenbrandt and Viola Kabele; two brothers, Edward and Frederick; infant sister, Evadine and an infant son, Robert. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Maplewood Nursing Facility for their love & care, and to Rev. Thomas Fricke, Rev. Carl Schroeder and Rev. Ervine Vomhof for their visits, prayers & hymns.
