Fruehling
April 3, 1925 – May 26, 2024
Eldor M. Fruehling was born on April 3, 1925, to Wm. and Rosa Fruehling in rural Nemaha County Nebraska. His first 8 grades of public education were in a one room school. His High School education was in Johnson, Nebraska, graduating in 1942. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific. He fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and served with the occupation forces in Japan. Five months of this time was spent in Nagasaki. He was discharged in 1946. After discharge he was involved in several different ventures. In 1948 he was married to Florence Steffens. The ceremony was performed by Eldor's father. To this union were born 4 children. After graduating from Peru State Teachers College in 1950 with a degree in Education, he enrolled in Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Upon graduation in 1953, he served as Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, rural LeMars, Iowa, for 3 ½ years. In January 1957 the family moved to Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin where Eldor served as Pastor in St. John's Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran in Merrimac He served as Pastor of St… John's for 35 years, retiring in 1992. In 1993 Eldor was elected to be a Trustee on the Board of the Village of Prairie du Sac, serving there until 2019. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lachmond-Cramer Post 7694, Prairie du Sac and involved in a number of community projects.
Eldor was preceded in death by his wife Florence, 2 sons (David and Daniel), a grandson (Mark) and 5 siblings.
He is survived by daughters, Ruth Fruehling and Susan (Dennis) Johnson, daughters-in-law, Diane and Sandra Fruehling, 6 grandchildren, Scott (Erika) Fruehling, Anne (Mike) Ehlers, Kate (Joe) Mattison, Christine (Jason) Smith, Stefanie Wiese, Brian (MaiLor Yang) Wiese and 13 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac at 11:00 on Friday, June 7th. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, June 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 to 11:00 on the day of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Maplewood Village, St. John's Lutheran church, the VFW or a charitable organization of your choice.
