Obituary

Eleanor "Ellie" Hanusa, age 81, of Reedsburg passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at Sauk Prairie Hospital. In her final moments, she was surrounded by family, each having the opportunity to stop by, say goodbye, and share in the comfort of being together.

Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sauk Prairie Hospital for the compassionate care they provided during her final days.

Ellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne Hanusa; her sister, Beverly Schlieckau and her nephews, Thomas Schlieckau and Terry Thieding.

Ellie was a caring, gentle, and kind woman whose love for her family was evident in everything she did. She especially cherished her grandchildren and found deep joy in spending time with them. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome.

She had a remarkable gift for creating beauty with her own hands. Alongside her husband Wayne, she ran a craft store out of their basement, turning their home into a gathering place for friends, neighbors, and loyal returning customers. Her handmade crafts decorated countless homes, and her candles filled rooms with warmth and comfort. Every piece she created reflected her patience, creativity, and attention to detail.

Ellie loved gardening, animals, and the simple joys of everyday life. She taught those around her to appreciate the beauty in handmade things and the comfort found in creating something meaningful.

She is survived by her daughters, Kim Ballweg (Bruce) her kids, Andrew Reithmeyer (Isabel), Bryce and Bennett, Cory Reithmeyer (Allison), Connie Flood (Mark) their kids, Cole and Lauren; sister, Diana (William) Thieding; brother, Leonard (Donna) Schmidt her step grandkids: Keifpher (Julia), Kylie Ballweg and kids, Keagan Ballweg, Kisstin Edge and kids and many extended family members and friends.

As per Ellie's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Ellie's legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely and in the beautiful crafts she created—pieces that will continue to bring warmth, comfort, and beauty into homes for years to come.
