Obituary

Eleanor Ellen Maier, age 84, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home, Tuesday, March 18, 2014. She was born in Madison, on May 13, 1929, to the late Jacob and Ruth (Hannifan) Koellen. Eleanor was united in marriage to Bernard "Ben" Maier on November 15, 1952 at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison. He preceded her in death on September 22, 2008. She was a long-time member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Roxbury and member of the Christian Mothers. Eleanor enjoyed volunteering at the V.A. Hospital in Madison for many years, working at the Old Feed Mill Gift shop, traveling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry (Rich) Haag; six grandchildren, Kris (Jamie) Maier, Christine (Josh) King, Tonya Maier, Rachel Haag, Zach Maier and Jacob Haag; five great-grandchildren, Colin, Aidan and Ryan Maier, and Olivia and Cole King; cousin Gerry (Anita) Hannifan; sisters in-law, Bertha Spahn, Mary Barman and Sister Lenora Maier; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Tim Maier and a best friend, who passed away 40 years ago on the same date, Bernadette Bast.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. NORBERT'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Roxbury, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Burial will follow at St. Norbert's Cemetery. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m on Friday, March 21, 2014 and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on the day of the service.

Eleanor's family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice, Visiting Angels, and family and friends for their helpful and supportive care of Eleanor.
